Merger Questions 

When will the merger take place?

The upcoming conversion is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025. While access to some services may transition at different intervals leading up to and through the account conversion, there should be no impact on your ability to use your account up to and through conversion. After the account conversion, you will have access to all Alabama CU branch locations.

Can I continue to use the current Alabama River Credit Union branch location?

Yes. The branch location will remain open and fully operational. You will continue to be served by the same dedicated team members you’ve come to know and trust, now as part of Alabama Credit Union.



Will my account number or account name(s) change with the account conversion?

Alabama Credit Union is working to preserve as many of your current account numbers as possible. If your account number does change, it will include a “45” prefix added to your original number. In addition, all Alabama Credit Union account numbers will include a suffix to identify the account type. Example: If your member number is 4122222, 412222250 will indicate a Checking Account and 412222200 and 412222201 will indicate Savings Accounts



Will joint and beneficiaries transfer with an account(s)?

To ensure your account information is current, we ask that you visit the ARCU Branch location to update your joint owner information associated with your account. This is especially important if you have made changes to the joint owners after you opened your ARCU account.



Will I need to update my ACH (Automated Clearing House) transactions (social security, payroll, etc.)?

Yes, update direct deposit and automatic drafts with new clearing information on October 1, 2025. *Alabama CU routing number is 262277419. Information regarding individual account numbers will be mailed to you closer to account conversion on October 1, 2025.

In addition, your checking account number ends in 50 and can be found on your Alabama CU checks, which you should receive at least seven days before the conversion date of October 1. The member savings account number ends in 00, and additional savings account product types start at 01, 02, 03, etc.

For Bill Pay users, all payees will carry over; however, any automatically scheduled payments will need to be set up again after the conversion.



Will fees change?

A copy of Alabama Credit Union’s fee schedule can be found here. While you may notice different terminology and intervals at which fees may be charged, Alabama Credit Union’s goal is to keep total fee amounts the same or less than what was historically charged.

What was in the packet that was mailed in mid-August?

Per requirements, Alabama Credit Union provided all members with a Change of Term Notice. This notice provided all ARCU members with Alabama CU’s account disclosures, fee schedule, and highlighted details related to account changes. You can view a copy of this packet here.

Will new debit cards be issued as part of the account conversion?

Yes, new debit cards will be sent to replace existing Alabama River CU-branded debit cards. 


Stop using your Alabama River CU Debit Card at the end of the day on September 30.
Activate & begin using your Alabama CU Debit Card on October 1. Your new debit card will be mailed to you by September 23, but you cannot activate it until on or after October 1. Activation instructions will be mailed with your new Alabama CU Debit Card. Personal identification numbers (PIN) can be set by calling (800) 992-3808 or by visiting your local branch after October 1.

Will my Alabama River checks still work, or do I need to order new ones?

Stop using Alabama River CU checks on September 30. Your new Alabama CU checks will arrive around September 23. You may begin using these checks on October 1.

Will my consumer loan(s) remain the same following account conversion?

Your existing consumer loans will transfer to Alabama Credit Union with the same terms - rate, term, and payment amount.

How will this affect my loan payments?

Following conversion, you can make loan payments at any Alabama Credit Union branch location; by mail to Alabama Credit Union, P.O. Box 862998, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35486; or visit AlabamaCU.com for more options.

When will I receive my account statement from Alabama Credit Union?

Prior to October 1, you should download all current statements from Alabama River’s Online Banking for your records and tax purposes. 

Watch for your September statement to arrive via mail around mid-October from Alabama River CU. For transactions done between October 1 and October 31, you will receive a statement from Alabama Credit Union during the first week of November. We encourage members to register for Online Banking with Alabama CU to have access to electronic statements and to avoid a paper statement fee.

When will online/mobile access be available?

ARCU Online Banking will be available until September 30.. Alabama CU’s Online and Mobile Banking will be available on October 1, 2025. You will be provided a temporary username and password to log in for the first time. Username: ARCU-{First Initial}{Last Name} Password: ARCu{Full SSN}!

When will I be able to use an Alabama Credit Union ATM?

On the first business day after the official merger, Wednesday, October 1, you can use any of Alabama Credit Union’s branch locations’ ATMs and ITMs. 

You may also use any credit union participating in the CO-OP Shared Branch network. The CO-OP Shared Branch network allows Alabama members to access their accounts and conduct transactions at more than 5,400 credit union locations nationwide. Will my deposit accounts be covered by NCUA insurance?

If you have $250,000 or less in all of your deposit accounts at Tuscaloosa County Credit and Alabama Credit Union, your National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) insurance coverage will not be impacted. However, if you hold deposit balances greater than $250,000 combined at the two credit unions, your NCUA insurance coverage may be impacted. If you have any concerns about your deposit insurance coverage, let us know and we'll make sure you are aware of products and services that may address your concern.  Plus, accounts will be insured up to an additional $100,000 of deposit insurance through a private insurance carrier, Excess Share Insurance.

Will dividends for CD and IRA be posted as normal?

Dividends for CDs will continue to be paid as normal. You will notice dividends posted for September on your last ARCU statement. Watch for CD renewal notices and contact us if needed.

For IRAs, dividends will continue to be paid quarterly, effective December 31, 2025.You will notice dividends posted on September 30  for September on your last ARCU statement.
