Secret Meals prepares to feed a new semester of Hungry Children

Hunger should never be a permanent condition. But for too many Alabama schoolchildren, that’s exactly what hunger has become. With the 2012-2013 school year coming up quickly, Secret Meals For Hungry ChildrenSM is gathering all its resources to better help the ever-growing number of impoverished Alabama children forced to go hungry.

On August 6, Alabama Credit Union will launch “Fight Hunger ‘Like’ Us” on Facebook. For every “like” this page receives, $1 will be donated to Secret Meals. If the page garners over 2,500 “likes” by August 31, 2012, Alabama Credit Union will double their donation.

Alabama Credit Union created the Secret Meals program to help feed children identified as going without food over the weekend. Secret Meals partners with local food banks, which assemble the nutritious food packets. These packets are then discreetly slipped into the backpacks of as many hungry children as donations allow.

Secret Meals is growing, but not nearly quickly enough to meet the needs of these children. However, with 100% of each donation going entirely to the purchase of Secret Meals food packs, every dollar of support makes a difference. A donation of $120 would feed one child weekly for an entire school year.

To lend your support to Secret Meals, you may donate at any Alabama Credit union branch or online at SecretMeals.org.
