Alabama CU wins award for excellence; Lankford honored with Distinguished Service Award

At the recent League Of Southeastern Credit Unions' Annual Convention & Exposition in Orlando, Alabama Credit Union was recognized as the Credit Union Of The Year for Alabama & Florida credit unions in the $100 million - $500 million/assets category. Dr. Tom Jones, Alabama Credit Union's most tenured volunteer director, accepted the award from LSCU CEO Patrick LaPine. ACU's excellent performance in growth, value and service to members, financial health, and service to the communities it serves were cited as factors in the competition. ACU Chairman Gladys B. Jones said, "Credit unions are the shining stars in the financial services marketplace, and we at Alabama Credit Union are grateful to be recognized among a class of exellent peers. We thank our members for their support and confidence in our not-for-profit financial cooperative." Alabama Credit Union was also the 2011 Credit Union Of The Year in the same category.

Jimmy Lankford, Alabama CU's retired CEO and consultant, was honored as LSCU's Distinguished Service Award recipient. Lankford's contributions to Alabama CU's growth and to fellow credit unions have spanned over 50 years. Lankford's wife Geneva, and several ACU directors and staff members were present at the ceremony.
