Credit union converts ATM/Debit card processing to PULSE® network
Alabama Credit Union began its transition to a new ATM/Debit card network on April 12, leaving the STAR network in favor of PULSE® — a move being made by many of the country's largest financial institutions. The result will be improved efficiency, lower expenses, and the advantages of working with a network — PULSE® — that is member-owned and operated, much like a credit union.

For most members, the transition will be transparent. However, there is the potential that for a brief period of time, merchant debit processors may have difficulty identifying to which network your transaction (especially an ATM or PIN-based transaction) should route. Should you be faced with this situation when using your debit card:
» Insist that the transaction be routed as a "credit" transaction (signature based).
» And, then contact the credit union's Member Care Center (205-348-5944 or 888-817-2002) so that we can take steps to ensure the retailer's route to our processor is converted.
On April 12, a few members experienced debit card failures at Wal-Mart. We are told that this large retailer will be among the last to update their processing system with the change, but that the update will occur shortly.
Again, most members will never recognize this change is being made. Those few problems that may result will be short-lived. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience you experience, but assure you that long-term benefits to the credit union and its members justify the change.
