1. How do I open an account?
Choose the way that's most convenient for you:
- At ThyssenKrupp's Downtowner office, when we visit on Wednesday, July 9, at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.;
- Here at our Online New Accounts Desk;
- At our offices in Foley, Gulf Shores, or Orange Beach;
- By mail, using these fillable PDF forms (savings account, checking account). For any person whose signature is not signed in front of an Alabama Credit Union employee, please have completed the Identification Notary Affidavit enclosed.
To open your account, please bring at least $26 ($25 to open your membership share/savings account plus a one-time $1 membership fee), the amount you wish to deposit to a checking account (at least $20 to cover your new checks), and your valid photo ID. (Please use this Identification Notary Affidavit for any person whose signature and photo ID are not personally presented at an Alabama Credit Union office.) And, please be sure to ask us about our options for joint account holders, payable-on-death beneficiaries, and an authorized agent on your account.
Completing the new account signature cards now will streamline the process when we visit with you.
2. Any limited-time special offers I need to know about?
Absolutely! Check out our "Welcome Aboard" special loan refinancing offer, just for ThyssenKrupp team members. But hurry -- this is good only for a limited time.
3. What if I'm already a member?
Great! Just provide your Alabama Credit Union membership account number to ThyssenKrupp for payroll deduction, direct deposit, or deposit of per-diem funds for your trip to Germany. Here's the form. You're set -- and now, doing business with Alabama Credit Union will be easier for you.
4. When will Alabama Credit Union representatives be on site at ThyssenKrupp? Who should I expect to talk with?
On Wednesday, July 9 ... Monday, July 21 ... and Monday, August 11, we'll be at ThyssenKrupp's office at 9 a.m. to visit with team members and open their accounts; a day or two afterward, we'll deliver your VISA ATM/Debit card to your office. We plan other visits in the near future as new ThyssenKrupp team members come on board. We'll have several highly qualified member service representatives, as well as our Elizabeth Cole, our South Alabama Area Branch Manager. We also hope to have Shellie Marshall, our Mercedes-Benz branch manager present to assist ThyssenKrupp team members.
5. I already have a checking account. Why do I need Alabama Credit Union's checking?
Quite simply, because Alabama Credit Union's checking is better. We offer many convenient ways to access your account: free ACUiBranch, free online Bill-Pay with direct deposit, free mobile ACUiBranch from your Internet-accessible phone, automated Call24 phone teller, and unrestricted toll-free calls to our Member Care Center, where real people answer our phones! We offer free e-statements, and we'll print your VISA ATM/Debit card immediately and deliver it to you at ThyssenKrupp on our next visit. We offer a nice selection of checking accounts to choose from -- extra benefits for persons over 50, and even a Pink Ribbon Checking account that contributes funds to Susan G. Komen For The Cure. And, there's no minimum balance on most of our accounts, no monthly service fee, and no per-check fee. Finally, you can conduct free transactions at more than 2,700 Credit Union Service Centers across the U.S., and at more than 60 ATMs in Alabama -- including many in the Mobile area.
6. I'm going to be traveling to Europe soon. How can Alabama Credit Union help? Can I get Euro dollars?
- VISA ATM/Debit Card -- and we can print these instantly for you at our Foley office, and deliver to your office. Use this card to withdraw the per-diem funds deposited by ThyssenKrupp while you're in Germany.
- VISA Stored Value Card
- ACUiBranch
- mobile ACUiBranch
- Euro dollars -- We've specially ordered Euros for you, and provided them to ThyssenKrupp for further distribution to you prior to your trip to Germany. Foreign currency is available upon request -- just let us know and give us a few days to get it delivered.
7. How and where can I conduct transactions?
- Alabama Credit Union's locations
- Credit Union Service Centers locations across U.S. and here in Mobile area
- Free ATMs -- including a growing ATM network in Mobile and throughout Baldwin County
- ACUiBranch online account access
- Free mobile ACUiBranch (no additional enrollment needed)
- Toll-free Member Care Center: (888) 817-2002, and we're available 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday
8. How does payroll deduction and/or direct deposit work?
Use one or both services. For example, choose a specified amount to be deposited to your savings account, and the remainder ("net pay") to be deposited to your checking account. Both will be available to you on payday, guaranteed. It's the best and easiest way to pay yourself first! Here's a fillable PDF form; submit it to ThyssenKrupp Stainless USA's payroll department when you've completed and signed it.
9. Who do I contact for more assistance? How can I reach someone while I'm in Germany, given the time difference?
- VISA Card Services -- ATM/Debit card, Stored Value card, Credit card, Gift card: Susan Peavy, at (205) 348-3885;
- Loans and Member Business Accounts: Benson Bolling, at (205) 348-3880;
- Member Services or ThyssenKrupp visits: Elizabeth Cole, at (251) 974-1769; or our Foley office, at (251) 974-1871; or, our Member Care Center at (888) 817-2002.
- Our special e-mailbox (ThyssenKrupp@AlabamaCU.com) is available for you anytime (especially useful while you're in Germany), and a key employee of Alabama Credit Union will respond to your message as quicky as possible, even on evenings and weekends. Please do not include confidential information in your e-mail to us; instead, use the secure e-mail function in ACUiBranch if you need to include account-specific information.
10. What else does Alabama Credit Union offer me?
A wide range of products and services -- from Dollar Dog Kid's Cub and teen club accounts, to CDs, sophisticated investment tools, and loans for purchasing or refinancing homes, autos, credit cards, and more. And, there's safe deposit boxes, Medallion Signature Guarantee service, notary service, U.S. Savings Bond redemption, small business accounts and loans -- and the list continues! We serve you from a network of 16 statewide offices, in addition to 2,700+ Credit Union Service Centers locations across the U.S. ATMs? We've got 'em -- and if we don't have one conveniently located near you, please let us know so we can add the area to our future installations list.
But, none of the above products and services replace high-quality, personal service -- the kind where people answer their own phones (no automated attendant during business hours!) and respond to your e-mails after hours and on weekends. At Alabama Credit Union, we believe it's our attention to exceeding your expectation of service when you need it that makes the difference.
With Linda's permission, here's an example:
"Hello Steve, I wanted to let you know the latest way that the Alabama Credit Union impressed me and my husband.
My husband's wallet was stolen recently and of course we were in a panic about protecting our account and we were also concerned about how we were going to function without access to our account. I went to the Credit Union (at Mercedes) and they took care of everything and within a few minutes they gave me a new debit card. I was amazed and grateful. My husband has not been a great fan of the Credit Union because I am "the member" and he is secondary [a joint owner], but he was very impressed. He was even more impressed when he considered that it took almost 2 weeks to get a replacement American Express card.
I wanted to compliment the staff and to thank you for your leadership and vision. I was very impressed, AGAIN. Thank you so much!!
Linda Miller, Human Resources Department, Mercedes-Benz, U.S. International, Inc."
Another benefit: after you've joined, your family members are eligible to join Alabama Credit Union, too. Be sure to tell them about us!
11. What are the plans for an Alabama Credit Union branch and ATMs at ThyssenKrupp's site?
We look forward to placing an office and ATMs at ThyssenKrupp's new site. In the meantime, we are willing to place an ATM in ThyssenKrupp's Downtowner Blvd. office for the convenience of team members.
12. I've made a financial mistake or two in the past. Can you help me get past the problems?
While nothing but time and an improved record of debt and financial account management can correct a blemished credit record, we can assist you in learning new skills that will put you on sounder financial footing. On behalf of all members, Alabama Credit Union pays the annual fee so that you may take advantage of the BALANCE Financial Fitness program. It's an entire library of online and toll-free phone services, interactive learning modules, and expert-assisted programs that help you change your future. For example, the BALANCE program's "Improve Your Credit Score" program helps you work on specific action steps -- guided by a financial fitness expert who assists you by phone at predetermined intervals -- to improve the all-important factor that often determines how much you'll pay in finance charges, whether you are eligible for rental housing or auto insurance (or how it's priced to you), if you'll be able to receive certain financial services such as VISA ATM/Debit Card, etc. And, there's much more: Money Management Counseling, Debt Management, Credit Report Review, Housing Counseling, ID Theft Solutions, and more.
If you've had problems with a previous checking account and your record is now preventing you from opening a new checking account, we can help. Our Fix-It Checking -- a basic checking account that requires only $100 monthly balance -- is available after you've successfully completed the Get In Balance online training class and paid any outstanding debts owed to other financial institutions with whom you've had a previous checking account. After six months' successful management of the Fix-It Checking account, accountholders may be eligible for VISA ATM/Debit Card, Credit Union Service Centers access, and more. After one year's success, the Fix-It Checking account may be upgraded to any of our other checking accounts.
Perhaps you're bringing previous financial challenges with you to your new position at ThyssenKrupp, or are concerned about the effects of inflation on your budget. Perhaps you could use some assistance in properly managing your new income. We understand that it's easy to make mistakes, but Alabama Credit Union's commitment to helping you become financially fit can change your future. Free of charge, we're here to help.
13. Haven't I seen you guys somewhere before?
Probably so. We enjoy doing special things for our members -- like giving them a free jet when they join. Think we're kidding? Check these out.
